18U Opens Season With a Victory

The Saints 18U opened the fall campaign with a 7-1 win over the Rochester Americans.  It was the only the second day on the ice together as a team.  Tom Mediak opened the scoring on the power play when he took a Lucas Walsh rebound and wrapped it around the other side of the net.  Andrew Poturalski extended the first period lead with a tremendous individual effort.  The second period started with Poturalski scoring, and Nick Smith extended the score to 4-0 off of a great feed from Patrick Thompson.  Rochester capitalized on a miscue at the offensive blueline to close the scoring in the second period.  Sean Malone scored his first goal of the game in the third period to extend the lead to 5-1.  Wilson Vershay and Malone added power play goals to finish the scoring.  Brandon Mueller made 10 saves to earn his first win of the season.

The Saints are off until September 17 when they travel to the Don Mills Flyers International Tournament in Toronto.
